Soil: Very damp, puddles everywhere
The sky is covered with clouds, and it has been raining endlessly since yesterday. The rain has made all of the soil into mud. I didn’t see any worms rising from beneath but I believe they will and this will help to provide the countless birds in this area with another source of food. An animal that eats the plants is called a primary consumer. Any animal that eats it is called a secondary consumer. These birds eat any insects or worms in the area, transferring energy from their pray to them making them a secondary consumer. They are consumed by other larger animals. such as an eagle, transferring energy to them. When the eagles die they decompose and return the energy to the earth by becoming nutrients for plants. That is only one of the examples of food chains and webs and how energy is transferred from the plants to the animals and back.

Great comments on the succession you are observing in the area near the river, as well as the changes the river is undergoing. Also, good ideas regarding the different levels on competition between the birds for their various food sources (which you pointed out vary greatly depending on the season). Be sure to proof as there are still a few spelling/grammar errors throughout.
